WCVB — "A Cape Cod politician is proposing a strategy that would involve killing great white sharks for public safety. Barnstable County Commissioner Ron Beaty announced a proposal Tuesday for a “targeted, localized shark hazard mitigation strategy,” based on a sharp increase in shark-related incidents in the Cape Cod area"
I hope anyone dabbling in these shenanigans gets mistaken for a gray seal. 'We saw a shark eat a seal near a beach, so let's start knocking down local populations'. Here's a counter-proposal; lawmakers are given an 8 ft rowboat, a harpoon and enough chum to attract every great white shark within 100 miles of Cape Cod. We televise it on every local news network and dub it "The Battle for Barnstable." That being said, we don't limit this event to just politicians; in fact I implore every asshole with a paddle-board and a problem with sharks to squeeze in the boat.
However many great whites "Team Barnstable" can take down is fair game. Hell, if they can wipeout the entire great white population with a couple harpoons then good-riddance to the damn things. But if "Team Barnstable" get turned into human-risotto, no one complain.
The other day at a family park, onlookers were forced to watch a human devour a bucket of fried chicken-legs with its barehands, wipe grease on its pants, and slither its way back home. Considering how traumatic the sight was for myself, I can't imagine the impressions it left on children. If we can stand the sight of that - we can stand the sight of a shark feasting on a seal.
